3. Go on a photo Safari for Bald Eagles and capture the power and grace of our nation’s symbol.  Winter nesting is found a Greenleaf State Park, the Fort Gibson Dam, and Three Forks Harbor. 

 

4. Walk in the footsteps of the Native Americans as they were removed from their homeland at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum where their Trail of Tears trek is remembered. 

 

5. Clang, Clang, Clang, went the trolley.  Take a ride back in time on Muskogee’s old fashion trolleys.  The trolley buses recall a simpler time as they wind their way through Muskogee’s historic downtown.

 

6. Tap your toes to a concert at the authentically restored historic Roxy Theater.

 

7. Stand on the very spot that the famous “Okie from Muskogee” song was first recorded - the Star Room in the Muskogee Civic Center or stand on the stage and see Muskogee from Merle Haggard’s point of view. 

 

8. Savor the flavor of Hamlin’s White Sauce, a true Muskogee complement to great Mexican food. Their unique white sauce keeps locals and visitors coming back just for this unusual appetizer. 

 

9. Go on a scavenger hunt for over 20 painted eight-foot guitars scattered like jewels around Muskogee.  First hint: get a guitar map at the Tourist Information Center.

10. Go back in time and test your skills with weaponry, dance, and renaissance food and drink; as you romp with King Henry’s court, pirates, and Scotsmen at the Castle during the Renaissance Festival.  

 

11. North, South, East, West - Muskogee’s BBQ is the best!  Muskogee has more BBQ restaurants per capita than any other city in the state. 

 

12. Tread the hallowed ground on the Fort Gibson National Cemetery and view the grave of Sam Houston’s wife.  Veterans of every American conflict since the war of 1812 take their final rest here.  

 

13. Follow Babe Ruth’s footsteps from the Sever’s Hotel to the Muskogee Civic Center, once the location of Muskogee’s athletic park.  Mickey Mantle also played at this field, the first in Oklahoma to have lights for night games.  

 

14. Dazzle your taste buds with some of the best chili in the land at Muskogee’s Annual Chili Cook-off, the second Saturday of each April. 

 

15. March across the Honey Springs Battlefield, where the most significant civil war battle took place in 1863.  Walk the interpretive trails that explain each battalion’s position and role in this pivotal fight for control of Indian Territory. 

 

16. Find a long lost relative at the Muskogee Public Library Genealogical Research Center - one of the most visited centers in the country.

 

17. Scout out the oldest fort in Oklahoma - the restored Ft. Gibson Stockade visited before you by Sam Houston, Washington Irving, Jefferson Davis, Zachary Taylor, and Robert E. Lee.

 

18. Dive! Dive! Dive! Step down into an authentic WWII Submarine, the highly decorated USS Batfish at the Port of Muskogee.  

 

19. Be dazzled by the azaleas, splash through the spray grounds, fish in the lake, enjoy a summer picnic or drive through a Christmas wonderland at Muskogee’s renowned Honor Heights park.
